On a Saturday morning, with average traffic, the drive to Carp from downtown Ottawa is about 30 minutes. What a great way to start the weekend with a visit to the Carp market. This past weekend, I was doing an Open House and, after putting out my signs for the Villageview model home, I took a walk through the market. Lots of crafts, baked goods, meat (bison. ostrich and elk) and the ubiquitous honey. There was one stall with the last tulips of the season. I have not mentioned all the stalls because it would be a nice to visit the market and discover it for yourself. In a fit of indulgence, I bought a little cake ($12) that serves 2 from “the girl with the most cake” . It might not be a cake that you would eat every day but it was fabulous.
Carp, unlike many of the rural communities, has many houses on gas and municipal water. There are houses outside of the town on acreages on septic as well. The housing is affordable, mostly because of the distance, but for people who like to drive, who work in Kanata or who are retired, this is a great community.
There were 50 sales recorded on the MLS® in 2008 as follows:
Residential Sales: 50 units
Detached – 45 Houses
- Average Sold Price – $387,986
- Range: $138,000 – $875,000
- Average Days on the Market – 53
Row – 5 Units
- Average Sold Price – $220,180
- Range: $215,900 – $230,000
- Average Days on the Market – 32
There were no condos sold in 2008. This is a quiet area where house and farm land and light industrial are existing side by side.
Carp fish are considered to be symbols of luck.
